The incredible art of South's AP Art and Advanced Art classes
During these times art is giving people some hope and bonding them. This is just one of many art trends that have sprung up all over the country. People can draw support from the art in their neighborhood. South Minneapolis resident Sara Hardwig participated in it and said, “It may be individually hard, the feeling of doing it [art] together makes it easier for me."
Local art strengthens community ties amidst pandemic
This is El Día De Los Muertos, a mid-fire stoneware sculpture by Jennifer Gutierrez Rosas, and a part of the Viva City Fine Arts Festival. Viva City features the arts programs of MPS high schools and gives students an opportunity to show their work to a larger audience.

In the back room of Cynthia Berger’s advanced painting class, Senior Audrey Janz works on her latest piece. “I’m really into realism and juxtaposition,” she said. “ I think there are a lot of different moods you can convey, with art.”

South High students Nasra Hassan and Frances Levy are just a few of the visual art students working together to paint the new mural for South. The mural that they are working on will be replacing the mural that is alongside the practice field by the end of June.
