Many South students are getting in the holiday mood as Winter Break approaches. This past Tuesday, the eighteenth, the South auditorium housed an appropriately festive concert put on by the Pop Singers.
Sheridan Moore, a sophomore who performed in the concert, said that “overall it was pretty great.” Both traditional and modern songs were featured, in solo and group arrangements. The students were accompanied by a piano. Around fifteen students performed, wearing Santa hats and other holiday gear, to an audience of about one hundred. Moore also said that “the turnout was amazing.”
The extracurricular group has been preparing for the Holiday Concert for a couple months, as well as other engagements in their winter concert series. They have carolled at the Mall of America, the U.S. Bank Plaza downtown, and have plans to carol throughout the school the day before the start of break. They were featured on the morning announcements on the 21st.
In the coming weeks, members of the group will be auditioning to sing backed by the South Jazz Band in the Singer Showcase on January 10. That will mark the end of this season’s concert series, following which there will not be another performance until the Spring.
