Please try and listen
December 1, 2016
Dear President Elect Donald Trump,
I’m sure you are aware of the immense fear that you have made much of America feel but I want you to take a step back and realize what you are going to be doing for the next four years. You will be in charge of one of the most powerfull countries in the world. That is a very difficult job, one that many people, myself included, don’t think you’ll be able to do. Many people have been telling me to just give you a chance, and believe me I want to be able to. But honestly I don’t think I can, your comments on immigration and terrorism, the way you treat women and so many other things you have said are cruel, awful and disgusting. The comments from the man you chose as your vice president, a man who believes shock therapy will “cure” LGBTQ+ people, shock therapy is a form of torture.
I come from a queer and immigrant household. When you were elected, Mr. Trump, I immediately feared for my parents and yet I have so much privilege because of the color of my skin and the color of my parents’ skin. You would never guess my mother is a Latina women living in the U.S. with a green card, her skin is too light for your stereotypes.
I am so scared for my friends and family and for all those who are in danger of you and the choices I’m scared you’ll make as President. Please try and listen to the people of the country you now lead and not just your own ego. We are all watching you Mr. Trump, the world is watching you.
