There has never been a year like this one
April 24, 2020
These are truly very strange times! As a teacher of over 30 years at South High, I can confidently say that there’s never been a year like this one. In 1991, school was called off many days due to the deep snow and extreme temperatures. Just last year I believe we had 7 days due to inclement weather. As I sit here writing this, I gaze out my window to see sunny blue skies and some neighbors pushing a carriage up the street – seems like an ideal day for the entire world to be running on “full.” We won’t go back to school this year. This is not due to weather or political unrest….but a simple, submicroscopic creature that is proving to be smarter than us all. I’ve heard it said that if we don’t take care of the Earth, the Earth will take care of itself. I think we’re living that reality. I don’t intend to depress or alarm anyone. It’s just what I’m thinking and feeling at present. As Michael Crichton wrote in his introduction to the disturbingly prescient novel Jurassic Park, “Life will find a way.” Be humble. Stay well. Care for each other and our Mother Earth.
