The study begins with a reading from the Bible, and from there students discuss and share their thoughts on it. Students get into deep discussions about what they feel it all means to be Christian.
The Bible study at South started the second week of September and there has been a group of about 10 to 15 showing up every Thursday. All students are welcome to join the study any time. They usually meet in Mr. Hysers room, 104. Students discuss the word of God and talk about their walk with him and how He has helped them in their lives.
Junior Gemachu Berga and junior David Vue organized the group, “so that we can get together with people ad learn the word of god. God is for everybody and he loves everyone. If you want to get closer to God than you should come to our bible study,” said Berga.
“South is very diverse and I wanted to meet all the other Christians at our school. I want to spread the word of the Lord not only to Christians but everybody. The school doesn’t teach much about religion, so I wanted anybody who was interested to join our study,” said Vue.
Junior Shonti Smith is new to the bible study group, she started going because “people I know suggested I should go and join in on discussions and so I have a couple times,” Smith said.
Junior Charlie Metcalf has been going each session for the past four weeks.
“I like the bible study, because it is an open topic and it’s youth talking about it not just someone I don’t know. I can relate to someone my age. I have a youth group on Wednesday nights at the Downtown First Baptist Church. Its basically a boost and increase of faith,” said Metcalf.
