How are friendships defined at South High? Many students take the time to make bracelets as a symbol of friendship. Here at South High, students like juniors Samekquel McGill and Ashley Sherman refer to making friendship bracelets as a trend and a popular craze.
McGill shows her friendship towards her closest friends by personalizing bracelets with sending a kind note. “It also makes my certain friends feel more special.” Other students at South High make friendship bracelets for a hobby.
Sherman states she wears the bracelets to make a fashion statement and to make them for fun. “I feel that I don’t use friendship bracelet-making to define friendships, I make them because there are new designs and pretty colored strings to work with.” Sherman says “I do it for a hobby and not for friends.”
While there are a lot of awesome ways to design these unique accessories, some students wear them all the time because it’s the new craze. Senior Paola Fuentes states, “I think that friendships are more than accessories, because you never take them off.” As friendship bracelets continue to become a hobby, trend and craze; Fuentes says, “I think South High will always have friendship bracelets because it’s like a South High thing.”
