People from all over the United States will be tuning in on Sunday to watch the Super Bowl XLV, including some South High Students.
Super Bowl Sunday is a competition between the champions on the American Football League and the National Football Leage. According to NFL.com, The Super Bowl has been an American tradition dating back to 1967 with the Green Bay Packers going against the Kansas City Chiefs. History is repeating itself with the Green Bay Packers competing again, only this year against the Pittsburg Steelers.
Sophomore Henry Huber has watched the Super Bowl since age 6. Huber is excited about this year’s Superbowl because “my favorite team [Green Bay Packers] are playing against the Steelers.”
Senior Josh Houston commented “I like the intensity of the whole game.” Houston believe the Pittsburg Steelers are going to win the Super Bowl because “[The Steelers] have a great quarter back and their defense is better.
Some South High Students have traditions that they do every year when the super bowl arrives. “My family makes meatballs” said Huber. “We also make our own sub sandwiches.” Huston said that he eats chicken wings, pizza and chips when he watches the game each year.
The Super Bowl is not only watched for the game itself. Some people enjoy watching the half time show and the commercials also. “I don’t blow off the commercials,” stated Sophomore Bo Schwanke “I look forward to them.”
The Super Bowl is the most viewed sporting event in the United States, but not everyone will be watching the Game. Senior, Heather Borgman commented that “I’m excited [for the Super Bowl] because my job will be less crowded and more relaxing.” Unlike the millions if people watching, Borgman stated that she will be not be one of them.
