Beginning on February 4th, South hopes to redirect traffic in the busy parking lot. The goal is to change the flow of traffic during arrival and dismissal times by redirecting cars picking up and dropping off students. Although the administration has been looking at the issue, the proposal that was selected was submitted by students in an engineering class.
The class recognized problems that stem from crowding, especially in the morning. These include students walking through the parking lot from different directions and cars stopping at different points. The plan also shows which entrances to be used, to avoid congestion and crowding. It will introduce designated drop off zone and places to walk to help students get to the school building safely.
Karen Holly, principal Cecilia Saddler’s secretary said that “safety was the main concern.” Holly also said that the students coming up with a plan and being involved like this was “perfect” and that the administration was happy to “tap into their expertise.”
