Pennies For Patients
March 20, 2014
Pennies for Patients, a charitable drive that collects money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society, has just ended. It is an annual 3-week fund that South, like many other schools, has participated in for numerous years. This is South’s 23rd year participating and students from fifth hour classes were chosen to collect money collectively. Whichever hour collects the most amount of money wins a pizza party.
It is expected that Richard Nohel’s fifth hour won this year. While it is an excellent way to raise money for a worthy and noble cause, it is also a fun way to bring out the competitive side of the teachers. This foundation was started in 1994, and since then has raised millions of dollars in pennies and other spare change to benefit this society.
Top prize winners on national levels win computers, electronics and sports equipment for their schools. Money from the talent show will also be going to support this foundation. The NHS officers and teachers who have helped to organize both are among hundreds of innovative learners and philanthropists dedicated to change and finding cures for both of these diseases.
