My name is Emma Pederson and I’m a senior and, the Opinions and Social Media editor for the Southerner. My favorite part about being in newspaper is being able to hear what South High student’s are interested or concerned about, and turning it into news. I play on South High’s volleyball team and am a member of the Minneapolis Youth Congress. I love dogs, ICEE’s, and watching Chuck.

Elise Gumm, senior, uses doodling as a way to focus and clam herself. She says, "Doodling, i do that a lot on test and other things just to focus. It's really hard for me to focus on other things without having something to draw on." Doodling and other forms of art help ease anxiety and can help combat depression.

Isbeth Saldana, 11th grade, holds up daughter Hailey in South High's TAPPP room. "[The kids] play and learn...they interact with each other," Saldana explained. She went on to say that TAPPP is a very positive part of her and Hailey's life. "[We] love the staff. They help a lot." Another mom chimed in, "The only reason I came back to school is for the daycare."
