Mumtaz Abdi, Staff Writer
Whether she’s listening to hip hop, eating pizza with pineapple, or drinking Coke, Mumtaz Abdi can always be found with a smile on her face, and friends nearby. She is a sophomore at South, and this is her first year on the Southerner staff. In her free time, Mumtaz can be found at the East Lake Library, watching Netflix, or browsing Instagram. Some of her favorite things to watch are Stranger Things, Black Lighting, and All American. She also plays basketball, and it’s her favorite sport. Last year, she played for South’s team, and she is considering playing for the team again this winter.
Abdi was born in Kenya, and moved to Tennessee a few months after. She has lived here in Minnesota since the age of six, but plans to attend college somewhere outside the Midwest, like California. She is interested in the medical field, and would like to become a nurse.
For her first year on the Southerner staff, Abdi is excited to experience new things and write opinion pieces to express her views. Abdi enjoys writing, and hopes to continue improving this year through the newspaper. Her favorite subjects are language arts and social studies, so writing for the Southerner fits right in.
