Jocelyn Ferguson

Jocelyn (Josie) Ferguson has been doing cross country running since her sophomore year, track since eighth grade, and after multiple winters doing nordic skiing, this year she opted for winter track.

Ferguson feels that the dynamic of the team has changed in cross country from her freshman year to senior year due to the change in teammates. “My sophomore year when I joined, I was the baby of the group and there were upperclassmen that I really looked up to who were sort of the parents of the team. Now that I’m a senior, I’m kind of one of the parents of the group. Now I watch over and help the younger kids, my role in the team has changed as I got older,” said Ferguson.

Ferguson goes to every practice, works hard, and completes all of the workouts. “I’m on task every single day and I do what the coaches tell me,” said Ferguson. She is the captain of cross country and track, and believes teammates would describe her as a strong leader.

She loves the running community and will miss running track for South, “I’m sad because it’s been a part of me…this is my fifth year running for South…,” said Ferguson.

She thinks that the team is going to be really amazing in the coming years. “I wish all the people that are younger than me that are going to be here next year, I wish them good luck and I think they’re all going to be amazing,” said Ferguson.

Ferguson would like to keep running track and try to do track in college. “I want to focus on my academics for sure but I want to at least have some running,” said Ferguson.
